Senior Advocate Of Nigeria, Femi Falana was recently on Channels Television with Seun Okin and he opened up about a lot of things. While speaking on Channels Television, Femi Falana revealed that the youth have a right to protest with the protection of the police, but he will not be taking part in the protest because as a political person, he doesn’t know the organizers.
“In his Words”
“I think the government is lucky this time, In 2020 they wasn’t a notice given by the young people before embarking on the ‘End Sars Protest’. The government has not denied the rights of Nigerians to protest for or against the government because that’s a constitutional right. But what I think the government is worried about, is the possibility that violence might occur again. From my experience in protests, I have taken part in protests for over 40 years in the country, young people or workers have never gone out determined to engage in violence”.
“All the time, violence have always occurred, the violence that characterized the end of the “End Sars Protest’ was instigated and fueled and sponsored by the government. This time around, I think the government is beginning to learn for the past, so what should be done? What should be expected if there’s going to be a protest and there’s an announcement? Is to harm the protesters. Where do you want to gather? So that the police can surround the place and ensure that thugs employed by politicians would not take advantage of genuine protest in the country”.
“And I think that’s what the government should do, identifying the organizers and collaborate with them to ensure that violence do not occur. According to the law, the youth have a right to protest with the protection of the police but I will not be taking part in the protest because as a political person, I don’t know the organizers”, Femi Falana said.
