According to Vanguard, Former Senator Shehu Sani has come to the defense of Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, who recently faced criticism regarding their roles in tackling banditry and terrorism. Sani believes the criticism is an unnecessary distraction from the important work being done to improve security.
Speaking at a press conference in Kaduna, Sani highlighted the positive trend of decreasing banditry and terrorist attacks in the North West and North Central regions of Nigeria. He questioned why some people are unhappy about the targeting and elimination of bandit leaders, emphasizing that these actions are essential for restoring safety.
Sani said, ”Why are some people not happy because bandit leaders are being targeted and eliminated?”
The senator also addressed claims made by the Governor of Zamfara State and other groups, who accused Matawalle of maintaining connections with bandits. Sani defended both Matawalle and Ribadu, stating they are effectively carrying out their responsibilities to make the North safer. He challenged critics to consider the violence that occurred during President Buhari’s eight-year term, when many people were killed daily.
