According to a report by Punch Newspapers on Monday, 30 June 2025, a farmer identified as Kabiru Kamba rescued a newborn baby girl who was buried alive in his farmland in Kamba, Dandi Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

Kamba who made the discovery on Friday, recounted how a strange sight on his farmland caught his attention. According to him, while inspecting his field, he noticed what appeared to be fresh ridges and decided to take a closer look.

“Out of curiosity, I flagged down some motorcyclists to help dig,” he said. “While digging the ridge, we found a wrapper buried in the soil, which raised my suspicion.”

Realizing something was amiss, Kamba immediately alerted the police at a nearby checkpoint. The officers arrived promptly and continued digging at the site.

“To our shock, we found a newborn baby girl, miraculously alive and crying, wrapped in a piece of textile,” he narrated.

The baby, though visibly distressed and covered in soil, was said to be in stable condition. She was immediately taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, but authorities have launched an investigation to determine who was responsible for the horrific act.

Residents of the community have expressed outrage and disbelief over the incident, while praising the farmer for his timely action which ultimately saved the baby’s life.

Kebbi State Police Command has promised to ensure that justice is served and called on members of the public to provide any useful information that could lead to the arrest of those involved in the crime. The baby remains under medical observation and is expected to make a full recovery.
