According to a recent video by ESET TV, former militant leader and Niger Delta activist, Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has criticized sections of the Ijaw community questioning Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s political legitimacy. In a fiery statement, Tompolo questioned the sudden opposition to the governor, reminding critics of the role former Governor Nyesom Wike played in his emergence.
“Where were you when Nyesom Wike single handedly made Fubara governor?” Tompolo asked. “Now that there is a crisis, everyone wants to claim ownership or speak for the Ijaw people.”
Tompolo’s comment comes amid ongoing political tensions in Rivers State between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. Several Ijaw youth groups and leaders have recently declared support for Fubara, citing his Ijaw heritage, while others have questioned his handling of the political crisis.
Tompolo, however, warned against ethnic manipulation and political opportunism. He urged the Ijaw nation to focus on peace and unity rather than deepening divisions.

“We should not be seen as people who forget history overnight. The same Wike people now insult was the one who championed Fubara’s candidacy when others were silent,” he added.
The ex-militant leader also called for calm in the state, encouraging all parties to resolve their differences through dialogue.
