The Director of Strategic Communication and Media for the Obidient Movement, Nana Kazaure, has strongly defended former presidential candidate Peter Obi against recent allegations, describing the claims as unrealistic given Obi’s character and track record.
Speaking during an interview on News Central TV, Kazaure addressed accusations made by activist Deji Adeyanju, characterizing the allegations as inconsistent with Obi’s known behavior patterns.
“The activist (Deji Adeyanju) is brilliant, he’s forthright, but it’s laughable,” Kazaure stated during the television interview. “He’s the one that was looking for a position to run for House of Representatives. Who’s more likely to have wanted to give somebody money? And I know that none of that happened.”
Kazaure emphasized that the allegations were so implausible that they provoked amusement among Obi’s supporters. “I’m just creating a scenario, and when we heard it, we burst out laughing because Mr. Peter Obi is one of the most unlikely people to be doing that. It’s not his style. It’s not his way,” she explained.
The communications director went on to highlight Obi’s established pattern of charitable giving, arguing that his approach to philanthropy differs significantly from what the allegations suggest.
“If you have a business, if you have a charitable thing you want to do – for example, maybe education, schools that don’t have computers – he’s happy to purchase those computers and have them delivered to the school, or he would deliver them himself,” Kazaure detailed.
She further outlined Obi’s typical philanthropic activities, stating: “If there are hospitals that need solar or boreholes to help augment what the Water Board can’t do, what the Ministry of Power can’t do, he’s somebody who will say, ‘Okay, I’m happy to be of assistance here.’ If school projects come to his table, those are the things he jumps at.”
The interview appears to be part of ongoing efforts by the Obidient Movement to address and counter various allegations that have emerged regarding their principal figure, Peter Obi, who was a prominent candidate in Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election.
