According to Tribune, Chief Olabode George, former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed deep concern over the state of affairs in Nigeria. Despite the country’s numerous crises, including insecurity, hunger, unemployment, and societal issues, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has chosen to travel to Paris, France, for reasons known only to him and his advisers.

George criticized the Federal Government, led by President Tinubu, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), and the Senate, for prioritizing the recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over addressing the country’s pressing issues. He described this as shameful and warned that Nigeria is precariously moving toward self-destruction.

The former PDP chairman emphasized that history serves as a prophecy of what is coming and that he sees signs of the collapse of the First and Second Republics being repeated by the APC-led Federal Government. He lamented that those in power appear unwilling to learn from past mistakes, while many Nigerians who care about the country’s future are too timid to challenge them.

George’s statement echoes the sentiments of many Nigerians who feel that their safety and well-being are being neglected by the government. As he aptly quoted from Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s song “Roforofo Fight,” “When trouble sleep, yanga wake am, wetin e dey find, na palaver e dey find. Na palaver e go get ooo.”

The ongoing crises in Nigeria, including the escalating insecurity, economic downturn, and social unrest, have created an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty among citizens. Many Nigerians are questioning the government’s priorities and wondering why they seem more focused on political power struggles than addressing the country’s pressing issues.

George’s criticism of the government’s priorities is not isolated. Many Nigerians, including civil society organizations, opposition parties, and concerned citizens, have been vocal about their dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of the country’s crises.

The APC-led Federal Government has been accused of being out of touch with the realities of ordinary Nigerians, who are struggling to make ends meet amidst rising poverty, unemployment, and insecurity. The government’s decision to prioritize the recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over addressing the country’s pressing issues has only added fuel to the fire.
