Mr. Chikwado has shared the heart-wrenching story of how he lost his sight at the tender age of 13.

According to him, the blindness came suddenly, and the emotional and physical toll it took on him remains unforgettable.

Speaking in an interview shared by The Lucky Udu Experience, Mr. Chikwado recounted the moment he realized he could no longer see.

“I woke up one morning and realized I was completely blind. I had been using my other senses to walk around all this while, but no one noticed that I couldn’t see.”

“When they sent me on errands, I wouldn’t go, and they would beat me. But telling them that I could no longer see was a problem.”

Describing his confusion and despair during those early days, he said, “Everybody was shocked. I was frustrated myself because I kept rubbing my eyes to see if I was dreaming.”

He added that his family was poor, and the option of getting medical attention wasn’t even on the table.

“I came from a very humble home. There was nothing we could do. For three years, I was just indoors because nobody could afford to take me to the hospital.”

When asked if his blindness was partial at first, Mr. Chikwado clarified, “I lost my sight completely.”

He went on to explain the reason it took him so long to open up about his condition.

“It was hard to confess to anyone. Even the first time I mentioned it to my elder brother, he beat me because he thought I was joking or making a mockery of those who are truly blind.”

When asked if he had a reputation for joking as a child, he replied, “Yeah, I was very playful growing up. I joked about a lot of things back then. Maybe that was why they found it hard to believe me at first until they realized the story was real.”
