Callistus Okafor, a prominent Labour Party chieftain, has expressed his disapproval of recent moves by Governor Alex Otti and former presidential candidate Peter Obi, accusing them of undermining the party’s constitution in favor of the Obidient movement. Speaking in an interview with Arise News FROM 5:50, Okafor argued that the recent actions taken by Otti and Obi are in violation of Labour Party’s rules and structure.

“His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti, the only Governor we have, and the former Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi—if you recall, all of them came from Obidients to Labour Party,” Okafor stated, drawing attention to their origins outside the party. He emphasized that Obi’s recent decision to appoint Dr. Tanko Yunusa as Coordinator of the Obidient movement demonstrates their continued alignment with the movement rather than with the Labour Party.

“What they did was putting an acting National Chairman of Obidients and the secretary of Obidients, not of Labour Party,” Okafor asserted, referring to the recent controversial appointment of Nenadi Usman as interim chairlady. According to him, this move is unconstitutional, as the Labour Party’s constitution stipulates that only the National Chairman, Acting National Chairman, or the National Working Committee can call for a meeting.
