Pastor W.F. Kumuyi, the General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, recently shared an unforgettable in-flight encounter that testified to the far-reaching impact of the church’s teachings.
During a YouTube sermon, he spoke on the theme of upholding one’s spiritual identity, declaring that evangelism and the truth of God’s Word are “not for sale.”
Recounting an incident from several years ago, Kumuyi said he was flying first class and quietly reading his Bible when a man seated beside him attempted to initiate a conversation. After initially resisting the small talk, Kumuyi eventually told the man he was a pastor. “What church?” the man asked. “Deeper,” Kumuyi responded. “Are you the pastor at Bada?” the man followed up.
Upon confirming his identity, the man, a prominent great businessman, stood up and addressed everyone in the first-class section: “Everybody, whatever you’re doing, I have the honor to introduce to you Deeper Life Pastor.”
The businessman then shared how he had never met Kumuyi before, but his accountant had recently joined Deeper Life. The accountant’s transformation so impacted him that he felt compelled to acknowledge the church publicly.
Kumuyi used the story to highlight the church’s reputation for upright living and biblical teaching. “We have an identity,” he said. “The identity that lives right, does well, and is trustworthy. Our identity is not for sale.”
He reminded members that Deeper Life is a teaching ministry, focused on delivering the Word from cover to cover with integrity. “Our church will not replace teaching with storytelling,” he added.
The testimony served to reinforce Kumuyi’s message that Christian identity, integrity, and truth must be preserved at all costs, regardless of where one finds themselves—even on a plane among the wealthy and powerful.
