According to a report by Daily Post on Friday, July 18, 2025, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it is seriously working to bring Peter Obi back into the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a recent interview, the PDP’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, described Obi as “a valuable political figure” whose return would strengthen the party.
Abdullahi said Obi’s impact during the 2023 presidential election was undeniable. Despite leaving the PDP for the Labour Party, Obi was still able to gather millions of votes across the country.
“We recognize his political strength,” Abdullahi said during an Arise TV interview. “He’s a great asset, and we’re open to having him back.”
He also pointed out that the PDP remains open to all former members who wish to return, as long as they align with the party’s core values.
Abdullahi’s comments come at a time when political parties are quietly preparing for 2027. With the 2023 elections behind them, politicians are already looking ahead, trying to form stronger alliances and rebuild broken bridges.
Peter Obi, a former Anambra State governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, left the PDP shortly before the last election. Many believed his exit weakened the PDP’s chances at the polls.
But now, the tone from PDP leaders seems to suggest that the door is wide open for reconciliation.
While Obi has not publicly responded to the PDP’s call, his supporters remain loyal and active. Whether he stays with the Labour Party or returns to the PDP, one thing is clear—his influence in Nigerian politics is still strong.
