Edo State politics took a dramatic turn as the embattled former Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu launched a scathing attack on Governor Godwin Obaseki, calling him a “scam” during an interview on Channels Television from 33:20.

Shaibu, who has been at odds with his former boss, did not hold back in his remarks questioning Obaseki’s credibility and trustworthiness.

During the interview from 33:20, Shaibu accused Obaseki of deceit and suggested that he had always intended to return to the All Progressives Congress. “We had that in mind to go back to the APC. That’s why I said Obaseki is a scam. He is a scam,” Shaibu declared.

The former deputy governor further challenged Obaseki to take legal action if he felt wronged by the statement. “I don’t have immunity now. If he feels he is not a scam, he should go to court. I’m in court with him, and I can prove it to the court that he is a scam,” he added.

Shaibu’s latest remarks come in the wake of his ongoing legal battle with the governor following his impeachment in March 2024.

The fallout between the two political allies has fueled speculation about the future of Edo State’s political landscape, with many observers viewing Shaibu’s comments as an indication of his plans to realign with the APC ahead of the upcoming gubernatorial elections.

Governor Obaseki has yet to publicly respond to Shaibu’s allegations, but political analysts predict that this latest exchange will further deepen the rift between the former allies.

As Edo State heads into a crucial political period, the battle lines appear to be drawn, with Shaibu making it clear that he is not backing down from his fight against the governor.
