Veteran journalist and politician, Dele Momodu, has revealed how opponents tried to frustrate the formalization of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the new party for Nigeria’s opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking in an interview on Arise Television from 5:48, Momodu described the tense moments on Wednesday when key figures of the newly formed coalition went to the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja to finalize ADC as their political platform.

“Imagine, we just wanted to formalize ADC, and they started blocking hotels, blocking this and blocking that,” he said. “But those guys outsmarted them, and I’m so proud.”

He said the venue was packed with supporters and political leaders, including himself and former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai. “We had to walk from the main road to the Yar’Adua Centre. That shows the level of commitment,” he added.

Momodu expressed concern about how Nigerians are being governed, saying that both past military rule and current civilian leadership have been oppressive. He said ordinary Nigerians are suffering and need leaders who will fight for them.

He also criticized what he called political manipulation, pointing to events like the sudden return of the Lagos State Assembly Speaker after being sacked by lawmakers, and the refusal to declare seats vacant in Rivers State despite lawmakers defecting to another party.

According to him, the law is clear, but those in power are ignoring it. He urged Nigerians to rise and support the coalition for true democracy.
