Political speculation swirls around the sudden resignation of APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, with reports suggesting President Bola Tinubu seeks to recruit New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) leader Rabiu Kwankwaso into the ruling party.

Sources indicate pressure mounted on Ganduje to step down due to his strained relationship with Kwankwaso, his former political ally in Kano State.

NNPP Chieftain Buba Galadima speaking in an interview with Arise TV has dismissed claims linking Kwankwaso to Ganduje’s departure, insisting the former Kano governor remains committed to the opposition party. “We heard that Ganduje’s forced removal was because the APC wanted to bring in Kwankwaso, and nobody had put any evidence on the table to suggest that Kwankwaso is joining the APC. He was even pictured carrying an APC membership card. Of course, we understand that the PDP, the APC, and even the coalition had been trying to woo him up.”

Galadima emphasized Kwankwaso’s unwavering loyalty to NNPP despite recruitment attempts from major political parties. “But he has remained steadfast, remains strategic, and we will remain in our party strategically until the whistle is blown for politics.”

The NNPP leader positioned his party as a credible alternative, arguing that Kwankwaso’s growing influence makes him a viable presidential candidate. He claimed other parties recognize Kwankwaso as a formidable opposition force who could “deliver the dividends of democracy” if elected president.

Galadima also addressed media reports about internal divisions within NNPP, categorically denying any factional disputes within the party structure.
