Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has reiterated his firm stance against US and Israeli influence in Iran, accusing both nations of seeking control over the country’s sovereignty.
In a recent post on his verified Twitter account, Khamenei highlighted the historical dynamics of US-Iran relations before the 1979 Islamic Revolution, asserting that the US aimed to dominate Iran and align its policies with American and Israeli interests.
“Before the Islamic Revolution, US wanted Iran to be totally obedient & secure the interests of the US & the Zionist regime. This was their dream about Iran & they still have this dream today,” Khamenei wrote. He further stated, “Carter took this dream to the grave, & they will take this dream to the grave too.”
The reference to former US President Jimmy Carter underscores Khamenei’s long-standing critique of American foreign policy during the pre-revolutionary era, a period marked by US-backed leadership in Iran under Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. The Islamic Revolution of 1979, which ousted the Shah and established the Islamic Republic, is often portrayed by Iranian leaders as a decisive rejection of US and Israeli dominance in the region.
Khamenei’s remarks come amid ongoing tensions between Iran and the US, particularly over issues such as Iran’s nuclear program and regional influence. The Supreme Leader’s statement reflects Iran’s commitment to maintaining its independence from Western powers, emphasizing that foreign ambitions to control Iran will ultimately fail.
