PDP National Publicity Secretary Dr. Ibrahim Abdullahi has expressed disappointment with former Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, accusing him of abandoning political leadership in his state to serve as a personal assistant to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

Speaking during an interview with Arise TV from 8:42, Dr. Abdullahi criticized the diminished role former Enugu governors have assumed in the current political landscape. “The only disappointment I have is for the former governors of the same Enugu State, you know, to come around him and be speaking in the manner they are doing. We’ve seen Sullivan Chime; we’ve seen Ugwuanyi, who has reduced himself to a PA—a former governor, a former member of the National Assembly, literally carrying a bag for an FCT minister today,” he said.

Regarding the wave of defections from the PDP to the APC, Dr. Abdullahi dismissed concerns about the party’s future. “We are not bothered about cowards. It’s an act of cowardice, and we are not losing any sleep about it. Anybody who chooses to move without the mandate of the PDP, farewell—we bid him farewell,” he stated.

The PDP spokesman questioned why politicians would defect to what he characterized as a dysfunctional party. “But I tell you something: if you are running from PDP to go to what is this contraption called APC, then it’s only a question of time. It’s a political party that has not been able to keep itself together, to put its own house in order. It has not been able to conduct a convention or any NEC meeting successfully. This is the same political party they’re running away to,” Dr. Abdullahi said.

He expressed confidence that voters, not governors, will determine the 2027 elections. “Go and ask Nigerians in the street: whose responsibility is it to determine who will govern them in 2027? So we are not bothered. If we go to the polls in 2027 without one governor, Nigerians will decide whether they are comfortable with what they are receiving today or if they want change,” he stated.
