New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) chieftain, Buba Galadima has raised fresh concerns about the sophistication of terrorist groups operating in Nigeria, warning that their growing technological capacity poses a serious threat to national security.
Speaking during an interview on AIT Live News from 1:33, Galadima referenced disturbing accounts surrounding the killing of Brigadier General Musa Uba, saying the incident revealed glaring gaps in the country’s intelligence and surveillance systems.
Galadima cited reports that surfaced shortly after the senior officer’s death, expressing shock over claims made on social media. He said, “when that Brigadier General Musa Uba was killed, in the social media one boy said he was speaking to the commander of those who arrested the Brigadier General, may his soul rest in peace. He said that in front of them, they see the whole of Sambisa Forest, whoever comes in and whoever goes out. If terrorists can have such a gadget, what stops the Nigerian government even using satellite to pick them and take them out.”
According to Galadima, the suggestion that insurgents may have access to real-time monitoring devices capable of capturing movement across the Sambisa Forest is not only alarming but indicative of Nigeria’s urgent need to overhaul its security strategy. He stressed that if non-state actors possess such surveillance tools, the government must re-evaluate its technological investment and intelligence-gathering capabilities.
Galadima argued that Nigeria has no excuse for lagging behind, especially when modern satellite technology and drone systems are readily available to governments worldwide. He noted that leveraging such tools could significantly improve counter-terrorism operations by enabling security agencies to track insurgent activities, cut off escape routes and conduct targeted operations with greater precision.
