Former Lagos State deputy governor, Alhaja Sinatu Ojikutu, has warned that Nigerians may one day rise in protest when they can no longer endure intimidation and political manipulation allegedly orchestrated by APC and the Tinubu-led government.

She made this remark in an interview with Punch while reacting to the outcome of the recent local government elections in Lagos State where APC won all the seats. Ojikutu described the exercise as a mere selection, not a genuine election, pointing to the poor voter turnout as evidence that people had already lost confidence in the process.

She argued that many stayed away from polling units because they feared harassment and already expected what happened. According to her, continuous suppression of citizens’ voices could eventually trigger a breaking point where people demand change.

She added that she always supports leaders once they assume office, praying for them to succeed because citizens bear the consequences of their failure.

However, she cautioned that no leader can give people what they don’t have, warning that any individual who elevates themselves above God is heading toward destruction.

Ojikutu also recalled appealing to President Bola Tinubu’s aide Bayo Onanuga during an event to honor the late Governor Lateef Jakande, urging him to tell the President the reality of people’s suffering instead of sugar-coated reports.

In her words, “That wasn’t an election; it was a selection. Did you see the voter turnout? People already expected what happened. If you know they will beat you and no one will speak up, would you come out?”

“It is more about intimidation and fear. But a time will come when people are pushed to the wall and will say, ‘Enough is enough.’”
