Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has reaffirmed his strong support for the country’s nuclear program and its community of scientists, while sharply criticizing the United States for what he described as efforts to undermine Iran’s scientific development and national independence.
In a statement shared via his official Twitter account, Khamenei emphasized that thousands of Iranian nuclear experts have been trained over the years. He questioned whether these scientists should be cast aside, made unemployed, and stripped of their hope for the future just to satisfy the demands of “arrogant” U.S. officials, whom he accused of opposing Iran’s progress and self-sufficiency.
His remarks underline Iran’s longstanding stance that its nuclear activities are peaceful and essential to the country’s advancement. Khamenei framed the nuclear program not only as a technical initiative but as a symbol of Iranian pride, resilience, and strategic autonomy.
He also accused the United States of using the issue of nuclear non-proliferation as a cover to stifle Iran’s scientific ambitions. The comments come at a time when efforts to revive the 2015 nuclear deal, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), remain stalled, with no clear path forward amid continuing international tensions over Iran’s nuclear enrichment program.
