The crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a new turn as lawmaker Imo Ugochinyere strongly condemned the chaos at the party’s headquarters. The conflict erupted during a meeting of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) at Wadata Plaza, involving supporters of two rival factions—those loyal to Samuel Anyanwu and those backing Udo Okoye.

In a video that was shared by SYMFONI TV from 3.27, Ugochinyere, a House of Representatives member, expressed his anger at the situation. He accused some party leaders of selfishly holding onto power even when they had no right to do so. According to him, PDP, one of Africa’s strongest democratic parties, was being damaged by individuals prioritizing personal gains, such as land in Abuja and monetary rewards.

He directly criticized PDP’s acting chairman, Umar Damagum, and Anyanwu, saying they had no real contributions to democracy but were trying to take control of the party unfairly. He also accused them of working for the ruling APC government, rather than protecting PDP’s interests.

Ugochinyere praised Udo Okoye, the newly recognized PDP National Secretary, for boldly stepping up to claim his position, as confirmed by a Court of Appeal judgment. He warned that those who caused violence at the party office, including thugs allegedly brought in by Anyanwu’s supporters, would face legal consequences.

The crisis has embarrassed the PDP, with some elders acting like “street urchins,” according to Ugochinyere. He vowed that the party would not tolerate lawlessness and that those involved in the violence would be dealt with according to the law.
