The Governor of Imo state, Hope Uzodinma speaking after a meeting with President Tinubu has alleged that those behind the August 1st planned Nationwide protest have an ulterior motive that is yet to be unraveled.
He emphasized that protests should have clear objectives, questioning what specific issues the protesters wanted the government to address. He advised against such protests, arguing that they could exacerbate the hardships already intensified by the global economic recession. He called for restraint and thoughtful consideration before engaging in actions that could lead to further socio-economic strain. He also thanked the President for assenting to the South East development Commissioning bill.
He said in an interview with Channels TV from 1:43, ”Those behind this protest have an ulterior motive and that motive is yet to be unraveled. We are not in support of any protest, we will not support a protest without program. Nobody knows what the problems are. If you are protesting, what do you want government to do?
Because the reason for protest is that you want an issue to be addressed. What are the issues? So in my view, I think there is no need to overheat the polity of our environment and put our people in a position that the hardship that is occasioned by economic recession all over the world is further worsened. So I strongly advise against the protest.”
Speaking about why the South East leaders visited the President, he said, ”We are here to thank the President for all the support he has given to people of the South East. And we also thank him for signing into law the South East development Commission which he just assented to.
If you would recall, that bill has been there for so many years now. The bill has been passed there times and it failed. But under the President watch, he finally assented to the bill. Which means that he listens to our cry and the people of the South East are very grateful to him.”…..Seë_Morë
