Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has criticized those who overlooked Wike in favour of selecting Ifeanyi Okowa as the PDP’s vice-presidential candidate in 2023.
In a post on X, following Okowa’s defection to the All Progressives Congress, Olayinka stated that those opposed to Wike’s selection as vice-presidential candidate argued that Wike would be too strong as Vice President and difficult to control.
Olayinka also pointed out the irony of someone who has yet to win an election commenting on the challenges of controlling a Vice President. He added that, since 2003, Atiku Abubakar has remained a divisive figure used against the PDP. He further stated that those who supported Nyesom Wike were labelled as disloyal to the party.
“They told us then that Wike will be too strong as Vice President, it will be difficult to control him, Yet, the person who has never won an election is talking about who will be difficult to control as Vice President. Then too, they termed us as disloyal to the party. Since 2003, Atiku has remained the weapon formed against PDP,” he wrote.
