In a harrowing account, one of the survivors of the recent Edo massacre has spoken out about the terrifying experience that led to the tragic killing of several Northern hunters traveling through the region.
In an interview with Sahara TV from 1:35, the survivor who was among those attacked recounted how they were unjustly accused and brutally assaulted before the killings began.
“Yes, we were searched. They found nothing on us except coconut, Groundnuts and other food items,” he revealed, his voice filled with pain. “Our people kept receiving beatings from them. They later started saying we were kidnappers.”
The survivor who was traveling from Rivers State to celebrate an occasion with his fellow hunters said they had no weapons or suspicious items in their possession. Despite this, they were subjected to torture before some were executed.
Reports indicate that the victims, mostly hunters from the North were traveling peacefully when they were stopped and accused of being criminals. The attack has sparked outrage across the country with calls for justice growing louder.
Authorities in Edo State have launched an investigation into the incident promising to bring those responsible to book, however, tensions remain high with community leaders urging restraint to prevent retaliatory violence.
The survivor’s testimony sheds new light on the brutality of the attack and the dangers travelers face in volatile regions. Many Nigerians are now calling on the government to ensure the safety of citizens regardless of their ethnicity or background.
As the nation mourns the lives lost, families of the victims are demanding justice emphasizing that innocent travelers should never suffer such a fate again.
