Former Nigerian Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has sparked intense reactions online following his controversial remarks on the recent escalation between Israel and Iran.
In a post on X, Fani-Kayode claimed that Israel suffered an unprecedented defeat in the confrontation, describing the outcome as a “bloody nose” and a “thorough beating.”
“In its entire 77-year history the Zionist state has never suffered such shock, panic, trepidation, terror, infrastructural damage and shame, and their cities have never been so savagely attacked and destroyed,” he wrote.
He added, “They picked a fight with a strong and proud nation and got not just a bloody nose but a thorough beating. Never will they launch an unprovoked attack on Iran again.”
Fani-Kayode’s comments come in the wake of a major exchange of hostilities between Israel and Iran which saw drone and missile attacks exchanged over several days. While Israel maintains that its actions were in defense of national security, Iran has declared victory in what it called a “firm and proportionate response” to Israeli provocations.
Fani-Kayode’s statement has drawn both praise and condemnation. Supporters of Iran hailed his bold assessment, while critics accused him of siding with a state that sponsors regional militancy. Diplomatic analysts also warned that such comments from a former government official could have geopolitical implications.
There has been no official reaction from the Israeli government regarding Fani-Kayode’s statement. However, tensions in the region remain high, with international calls for de-escalation growing louder.
Fani-Kayode, known for his outspoken views, remains a polarizing figure in Nigerian and international political discourse. His latest remarks further underscore the deep divisions surrounding the Israel-Iran conflict.
