The Chairman of Obio-Akpor Local Government Area in Rivers State has announced the reopening of a community market that was previously appropriated during the tenure of former Governor Nyesom Wike.

“As a local government, we have also reopened the market that was taken by the former governor of Rivers and returned it to the community,” Ihunwo remarked. He also mentioned the establishment of a Market Committee to oversee its operations.
In a significant revelation, Ihunwo stated that he turned down a considerable financial offer concerning the market’s future.
“They proposed over 500 million [naira] to finalize the deal, but I refused. The market is for the people, and they should manage it,” he asserted.
The chairman’s actions reflect a dedication to community ownership and the empowerment of local economies. By instituting a locally-managed committee, the administration aims to ensure that the market effectively serves the residents of Obio-Akpor.
