Former Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, has described a powerful image that symbolises the pain and silent protest of victims affected by the ongoing violence in Benue State. During an interview with Arise Television, Dickson expressed concern over the continued loss of lives and the emotional toll it has taken on ordinary citizens, especially women and children caught in the crossfire.

He referenced a particularly heartbreaking moment captured during a government delegation’s visit to a hospital housing injured victims. One of the images showed a woman, whose child’s hands had been severed, turning her face away as officials approached—a quiet but piercing gesture of despair and disillusionment. Dickson said such moments should push leaders to reflect on whether their response has been deep and decisive enough.

According to him, “There’s one picture that’s very poignant; I don’t know if you’ve seen it. The picture of the lady who was in the hospital with her child, whose hands had been severed, and who looked away, you know, in protest about the actions of the government, it’s good that officials of the government and the security chiefs were there. I spoke with the governor myself, and I know that a lot of security people were there and things are happening, but are they far-reaching enough?”
