Amidst the ongoing condemnation by some prominent world leaders and international organizations against the Israeli regime over its ongoing offensive military campaign in Gaza that resulted in the death of tens of thousands of innocent civilians, Amnesty International had exposed Israel’s systematic use of starvation as a weapon of war in Gaza.
According to a report by Anadolu English on Monday 18 August, 2025, Erika Guevara-Rosas, Amnesty’s Senior Research Director in a new report featuring testimonies from displaced civilians in Gaza, revealed how Palestinian civilians including emaciated children were begging for food, and were being deliberately targeted in a calculated genocide, after interviewing some Palestinians, presenting irrefutable evidence that Israel’s blockade, and military operations were orchestrated to physically destroy Gaza’s population, not just collateral damage.
They also dismantle the claims of the Israeli regime that Gaza’s humanitarian catastrophe was an unintended consequence of war, noting that hunger and disease were the intended outcomes of Israel’s 22-month siege, citing policies designed to crush Palestinian health, dignity, and social survival.
In her words, Erika Guevara-Rosas said, “It is the intended outcome of plans and policies that Israel has designed and implemented, over the past 22 months, to deliberately inflict on Palestinians to bring about their physical destruction, which is part and parcel of Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza. The world cannot continue to pat Israel on the shoulder for trickling in aid and viewing these cosmetic measures as a sufficient response to its calculated destruction of the lives of Palestinians in Gaza.”
“As Israeli authorities threaten to launch a full-scale ground invasion of Gaza City, the testimonies we have collected are far more than accounts of suffering; they are a searing indictment of an international system that has granted Israel a license to torment Palestinians with near-total impunity for decades,” the top Amnesty International official stated.
Erika Guevara-Rosas went further to slam world leaders for rhetorical posturing while enabling the impunity of the Israeli regime under the leadership of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stating that the international system had handed Israel a free pass to torture Palestinians for decades
