Senator Shehu Sani has praised Nigeria’s minority tribes, calling them the glue that holds the nation together. In a recent statement on his verified Twitter account, Sani emphasized the vital role these groups play in maintaining Nigeria’s unity and stability.

According to the former lawmaker, minority tribes are among the most patriotic and nationalistic segments of the country. Unlike other groups, they rarely advocate for the breakup of Nigeria, understanding that such a move could place them in a precarious position. Sani noted that these tribes are aware that any secession might only lead to a transition from one form of dominance to another, effectively exchanging one “master” for another.

“The minority tribes in Nigeria are the cement that binds the nation. They are the most patriotic and nationalistic cream of the country. Hardly you hear them advocating for breakup because they know that they will end up being freed from one ‘master’ and ‘enslaved’ by another. They prefer the devil they know,” Sani tweeted.

His remarks come at a time when Nigeria faces increasing calls for regional autonomy and secession, particularly from groups in the southern and eastern parts of the country.
