Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has claimed that bandits and terrorists operating across Nigeria are better equipped than the country’s military forces.
Speaking in an interview with Channels Television, Lawal expressed concern over the level of sophistication and funding available to these criminal groups.
He suggested that the resources at their disposal were too vast to have been acquired independently, hinting that powerful sponsors might be backing them.
When questioned about the alleged involvement of Fulani tribesmen in banditry, Lawal explained that silence from community leaders when wrongdoing occurs often gives the impression of complicity.
He compared the situation to a parent who fails to reprimand a child for committing an offense, saying that others would be justified in blaming the entire family.
Lawal stated that it was troubling to see untrained individuals in the bush handling advanced weapons superior to those of the Nigerian Army.
He further stressed that while the terrorists were using sophisticated weapons more powerful than the Nigerian soldiers’ ammunition, the military is using drones to fight them, hinting that the army may not yet have powerful helicopters and bomber jets.
According to Babachir Lawal:
“Sometimes they are better, I mean all the time they are better armed than the soldiers. We do hear these days that they now also using drones. Maybe they are yet to acquire helicopters and bombers.” View, More,
