Ifeanyi C. Ejiofor, Esq. (KSC) a distinguished lawyer and a human rights advocate, during an interview with The Sun correspondent, talked about sundry issues of governance in Nigeria mostly as it affects the Igbo, and recent security developments in his home state of Anambra, among others.
When asked about the 2027 general elections, as Dr. Reuben Abati was reported to have said on national television that the North would not support Peter Obi’s one-term proposal because the mistrust rooted in the Civil War era had not truly ended. Reacting to this, Ejiofor was said to have agreed with Abati’s position, stressing that the journalist’s remark reflected the reality of Nigeria’s unresolved post-war politics.
He was reported to have said that the case of Deputy Comptroller-General (DCG) B.U. Nwafor served as a contemporary example of the long-standing pattern of exclusion. For those who doubted Dr. Abati’s assertion, he pointed to her experience as clear evidence.
Ejiofor explained that DCG Nwafor, an accomplished officer from Anambra State, had been next in line to succeed the current Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi. He stressed that her career record was impeccable, characterised by discipline, diligence, and distinction, yet she was overlooked despite her qualifications and seniority.
Further talking, he said, “Yet, in a move that reeks of systemic injustice, the presidency extended Adeniyi’s tenure by one year, effectively blocking Nwafor from ever reaching the pinnacle of her career.
“She’ll retire next year without attaining the office she merited, not because of incompetence or corruption, but because the civil war has never ended in Nigeria.
