Prominent Nigerian politician and former senator Shehu Sani has taken to his verified Twitter account to address the current unrest affecting predominantly the northern regions of Nigeria. In his statement, Sani unequivocally dissociated himself and his supporters from any form of violence, disorder, anarchy, and calls for a military coup.

He emphasized the importance of maintaining peace, justice, and democracy as the foundations for guaranteeing citizens’ rights.

“Today our country, mostly the Northern part, is in turmoil. We will not shy away from disassociating ourselves from violence, disorder, anarchy, and call for military coup. Rights are better guaranteed in a peaceful, just and democratic society,” Sani tweeted.

Sani’s remarks come at a critical time when several northern states are experiencing heightened insecurity, marked by insurgencies, banditry, and communal clashes. These challenges have fueled discontent among citizens, leading to protests and, in some instances, calls for drastic political changes, including military intervention.

In his statement, Sani reiterated his commitment to democratic principles and the rule of law, arguing that the protection of human rights is best achieved within a stable and democratic framework. He called for a collective effort to restore peace and order in the troubled regions, urging citizens to reject violence and embrace dialogue and lawful means of addressing grievances.
