Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has hailed the visit of a United States Congressional delegation to Nigeria, describing it as a timely and important step toward strengthening collaboration in the fight against insecurity.

Sani made the remarks on Sunday in a statement shared on his verified Twitter account, noting that the delegation’s presence would offer an opportunity for firsthand assessment of Nigeria’s security realities.

According to the former lawmaker, the visit is crucial in helping American lawmakers separate facts from distortions regarding the country’s protracted battle against armed bandits and terrorist groups. He argued that foreign policymakers often rely on second-hand reports, which may include “information, misinformation, and disinformation” that do not accurately portray the severity or complexity of Nigeria’s security challenges.

Sani emphasised that Nigeria stands to benefit significantly from enhanced intelligence and military assistance from the United States. He stressed that such support would bolster ongoing efforts by the Nigerian Armed Forces and security agencies to dismantle criminal networks responsible for widespread violence, kidnappings, and rural displacement across several regions.

“The US intelligence and military support for the nation’s battle against criminal armed bandits and terrorist groups is very much needed,” he wrote, underscoring the urgency of international collaboration in combating transnational threats.

He further noted that insecurity in Nigeria has implications beyond national borders, particularly in the West African sub-region where extremist groups continue to expand. A strengthened partnership with Washington, he said, would contribute meaningfully to regional stability. View, More,
