The National Leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso has revealed why Emir Sanusi Lamido was reinstated as Emir of Kano and Ado Bayero was deposed by the governor. He stated that the reinstatement of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi was primarily a campaign issue and not a personal vendetta against Former Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje.

He highlighted that Sanusi was originally installed by his administration in 2014 while he was governor. However, he stated that Ganduje who was his successor decided to divide Kano into five regions, a move which he argued is against their political ideology. He emphasized that they believe that Kano’s traditional institution should remained robust and unfragmented.

He explained that during the campaign, the governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had promised the people that if elected, he would maintain a unified and strong traditional institution in Kano. He stated that upon assuming office, the governor took a year to deliberate and consult with various stakeholders. He identified that this culminated in the reinstatement of Emir Sanusi and the dissolution of the five Emirates in which Ado Bayero was once a Emir in one of the Emirates.

He said in an interview with Arise TV from 15:23, ”I think the reinstatement of Sanusi was mainly because it was a campaign issue. Sanusi Lamido Sanusi was installed by our administration in 2014. And along the line, when my deputy governor (Ganduje) who later became governor in his own wisdom decided that he would divide Kano into five. And many people may not remember that was being tried by Abubakar Rimi administration during the PRP days.

And it was our position and it was in our believes that Kano should continue in terms of traditional institution to be on solid institution. So during the campaign, the governor went around to tell the people in the state that if he’s voted, Kano will be one solid traditional institution. And so when the governor was sworn in, he waited for a period of a year. And consultations were made and they decided to follow due process through the state assembly. And after that, Emir Sanusi was reinstated and the five Emirates was dissolved.”….Seë_Morë
