Popular Nigerian writer, Ugoji Egbujo recently took time to send a heartfelt letter to Dele Farotimi, a renowned human rights lawyer and writer. In his statements which drew widespread attention from the general public, he pointed out that the writer was bundled to Ekiti State, and seeing no tears in his eyes, they tightened the screw on him with more charges.
As the news regarding the conditions attached to the bail granted to Dele Farotimi, a renowned human rights activist and writer garnered widespread attention across various social media platforms, a lot of mixed reactions were stirred from the general public. The conditions which included a bail of thirty million naira (N30m), drew widespread condemnation from different quarters as many view it as an attempt to silence him.
In light of this, a renowned writer and commentator, Ugoji Egbujo took time to send a thought provoking letter to Dele Farotimi, reminding him of what he faced while in detention.
In his statements which were shared by news outlet, VANGUARD today being Saturday the 21st day of December 2024, he pointed out that the writer was bundled to Ekiti State only to be charged with misdemeanor. He further pointed out that when they noticed he was not reacting, they felt compelled to tighten the screw by escalating his charges.
‘In his words’
“You were bundled to Ekiti like a felon only to be charged with a misdemeanour. A man shouldn’t smash a fly with a hammer if it’s perched on his scrotum.
“Brother Dele, a courageous man, is not a reckless man. When you got to Ekiti, couldn’t you have feigned brokenness? As Dino Melaye might have done. Seeing no tears in your eyes, they felt compelled to tighten the screw with many more misdemeanours.” He said.
