According to the report from News Central TV, The Rivers State House of Assembly has rejected Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s invitation to a crucial meeting, emphasizing that formal communication should be prioritized over social media channels. The meeting, which was called by the Secretary to the State Government, was intended to address pressing matters, including the 2025 budget and lawmakers’ allowances.

However, members of the Assembly loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike have dismissed the invitation, with some openly mocking Fubara in viral videos. This response follows a Supreme Court ruling that affirmed their legitimacy, granting them further political leverage. As the situation intensifies, the Assembly has also called for the presentation of the state budget and nominations for commissioners.

Today marks the expiration of the lawmakers’ 72-hour ultimatum given to the Rivers State Electoral Commission Chairman. With rising tensions and unresolved issues, questions are being raised about the future of governance in Rivers State.

Francis Chilaka expressed his concerns about the conduct of the lawmakers, stating, “I would say that these lawmakers are behaving like charlatans right now. They’re behaving like babies. They seem not to understand what democratic tenets mean, and they don’t understand what it means to represent the people.”

He continued, criticizing their actions in the wake of the Supreme Court ruling, “Yes, I expect that they would behave the way they are behaving because for them, they feel that they’ve gotten victory from the Supreme Court, and what they want to do is to be able to push the governor to a point where the governor will have no say in the state. It’s uncalled for, honestly speaking. I get so ashamed when I see adults behaving like babies.”
