According to a recent video on Echo 360 TV, a member of the Rivers Women Unite Prayer Group painted a heartbreaking picture of the suffering many women are facing in Rivers state following the removal of the state’s elected governor, Governor Fubara.

The woman is a local hairdresser and grandmother, she speaks Pidgin English, she described how her life and means of survival have been deeply affected since the political crisis began.

“I be market woman, I be suffer woman,” she said, her voice heavy with pain.

“I dey plait hair, and since when this governor come, I feel fine. I dey feed my children, my grandchildren. I dey plait hair for people, people dey come. But now, nothing. I no plait again. When I come back, I go dey sleep. Every time I sleep. No food. My children dey cry, me I cry. Day and night I dey cry.”

The woman, who spoke during a prayer meeting organized by the Rivers Women Unite Prayer Group, said she and many others have turned to prayer every Wednesday and Thursday, pleading for the return of the governor who, according to them, made life easier for ordinary people.

“Every wednesday I dey come out dey pray, thursday I come dey pray I need my governor back,” she said.

The group insisted that the former governor had empowered women, supported petty traders, and given hope to struggling families.

His absence, they say, has thrown thousands of households into sudden hardship.

Their demand is clear: they want democracy restored, and the governor they elected to be returned to office.
