Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara demonstrated strong grassroots support during a public appearance in Elele, Ikwerre Local Government Area, where he attended a house opening ceremony for a prominent state leader.

Fubara visited the community to honor Chief Pa Mike Elechi’s house opening ceremony, drawing large crowds of enthusiastic supporters.

According to a media broadcast by Symfoni TV, the governor arrived with key officials including his wife, Deputy Governor Mrs. Mary Odu, Chief of Staff Edison Ehie, and other Ikwerre leaders. The delegation received an enthusiastic welcome from residents who gathered to show their support.

The warm reception comes amid a significant political crisis that has resulted in the suspension of both Governor Fubara and 27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, creating uncertainty about the state’s leadership structure.

The public display of support addresses ongoing questions about Fubara’s political base, particularly given previous claims that he lacked grassroots backing before assuming office. Critics had argued that his predecessor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, was primarily responsible for his political rise.

However, Fubara’s recent visit to Ikwerre Local Government Area, where he reportedly drove himself, appears to demonstrate organic support among Rivers State residents for the embattled governor.

The Elele community showed their solidarity by presenting Fubara with a framed glass image of himself during the ceremony. Community members also made public declarations of their continued loyalty. Local residents assured the governor that he would maintain their support regardless of circumstances, emphasizing their commitment through changing political conditions.

The governor has recently expressed optimism about resolving the current political impasse. During a recent closed-door meeting with supporters, Fubara made it clear that both the executive and legislative branches would soon return to normal operations.

Behind the scenes, the governor has reportedly made strategic moves to address the crisis, including recent visits to Abuja where he met with both the FCT Minister and President Bola Tinubu within the past few days.
