A former Mayor of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, Hon. Ezebunwo Ichemati, has alleged that a relative of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike was appointed to a key local government position in Rivers State.

In an Arise TV interview from 12:00, Hon. Ichemati accused the state’s sole administrator of failing to keep promises of neutrality, stating, “When he came on board, he met with the head of local government administration, and when he met with them, he said he’s coming here as a neutral man and that he would work with only civil servants and the head of local government administrators that are there as the most senior civil servants in the 23 local governments.”

The former mayor challenged this commitment, asking, “So, why are you not working with them, and you’re now taking names from the FCT minister? In Obio Akpor, the man appointed there is a senior cousin to the FCT minister.”

Ichemati also described what he characterized as partisan behavior by the newly appointed administrators. “You saw what happened yesterday; the moment they were supposedly inaugurated, they got to the council, and you see them bringing down posters of the governor. Are these people not political?” he said.

He further accused the administrator of “disobeying the federal high court,” adding that “his actions are showing that he is here to favor only the FCT minister and his supporters.”

Ichemati concluded with allegations of a broader political strategy to permanently remove the governor of Rivers state: “Since they could not remove the governor, they are now doing it through the administrator by bringing down every structure of the governor in the state.”
