The Rivers State Caucus in the House of Representatives has distanced itself from one of its members, Dumnamene Deekor, disowning him as its leader and spokesman. The caucus, in a statement signed by its Leader, Hon. Awaji-Inombek D. Abiante, emphasized that Deekor was never authorized to speak on behalf of the group, According to THE NATION reports.

This statement was in response to Deekor’s recent call for the sanctioning of Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, the coordinator of the G-60 lawmakers, over his stance on certain political issues. Abiante clarified that the leadership within the Rivers caucus is determined by seniority, disqualifying Deekor, a second-term lawmaker, from leading the caucus. He noted that Deekor’s election in 2019 followed a previous loss of his seat in 2015, and his re-election in 2023 does not grant him the seniority required to lead.
