According to a report from Daily Trust Newspaper on Friday, February 28, Kano State’s government has issued a stern warning to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu: remove Emir Aminu Ado Bayero from the Nasarawa Palace or face widespread protests. Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo delivered the message during a recent relief materials distribution event at the Kano Government House, framing the Emir’s presence as a direct threat to peace and stability. Gwarzo’s impassioned speech accused certain individuals of exploiting the situation to incite unrest, escalating tensions in the already volatile region.

“We are calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to remove the emir he enthroned and kept in a graveyard,” Gwarzo declared, using strong language to underscore the urgency of the situation. He condemned what he described as excessive force used against protesters, alleging the use of teargas and live ammunition against peaceful demonstrators. “In a democratic society, the people have a right to express their views, and we will not be silenced by intimidation,” he stated.

According to a report from Daily Trust Newspaper, The deputy governor directly linked Emir Bayero’s continued presence in the Nasarawa Palace to a deliberate attempt to undermine Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration. He reiterated the government’s stance that Muhammadu Sanusi II is the legitimate Emir of Kano, emphasizing the legality of his reinstatement. “The rule of law must be respected,” Gwarzo insisted. “The governor has the sole authority to appoint an emir in Kano, and any attempt to circumvent this process is unacceptable.”

Gwarzo also criticized the increased military presence in Kano, arguing that such measures are counterproductive and will only fuel further dissent. “Intimidation tactics will not quell the will of the people,” he warned. He reiterated the government’s commitment to upholding democratic principles and protecting the rights of its citizens.
