There have been several reactions from the general public and particularly social media users after the Code of Conduct Bureau received a petition against the president of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio over the abuse of power and other constitutional violations. This came after Sahara Reporters shared the revelation on their official social media handle.
The petition was addressed to the chairman of the code of conduct bureau. Those accused in the petition included Senator Godswill Akpabio, Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, and Senator Neda Imasuen, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics.
According to the group, the petition was in regards to the unlawful suspension of the senator representing Kogi Central, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, which was done in defiance of a court order.
The group further pointed out that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan secured a court order barring the chairman of the Senate Committee on ethics from proceeding with investigations, but he flaunted the order and proceeded with the investigations.
“On 4th March, 2025, the Senator representing our Senatorial District, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan secured an interim order of injunction from the Federal High Court restraining the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Code of Conduct, Sen. Neda Imasuen from proceeding with the purported investigation against the Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.” They said.
Sahara Reporters shared the statements with the caption, “Code of Conduct Bureau Receives Petition Against Senate President Akpabio, Others Over Abuse of Power, Constitutional Violations In Senator Natasha’s Suspension.”
However, after the revelation and the accompanied statements surfaced online, a lot of mixed reactions were stirred from the general public as many blamed the president of the Senate for the saga.
