The FCT Police Command have had a scuffle with the protesters outside the Moshood Abiola Stadium. The FCT Police Commissioner, Ben Igweh while addressing the press has alleged that the court order only permits the protests solely within the confines of the Moshood Abiola Stadium.
He emphasized that the authorities are not attempting to inhibit the protesters’ rights but are ensuring that the court’s directives are followed. He expressed concerns about the protesters’ actions, which disrupt public order and impede the free movement of individuals. He argued that by blocking the express road, the protesters are unlawfully encroaching on others’ legal right to move freely, which is unacceptable.
He said in an interview with Arise TV From Minute 6:03, ”There is no misunderstanding between us and the protesters. There is a court order that only allows them to protest inside the Moshood Abiola Stadium. Barrister Deji Adeyanju who is leading the protesters is aware of the Court order. We requested that each group that will protest has to come to the police and notify the police but no group has notified the police. We only came here and saw some people and we said for the fact that you have not notified us and you want to protest, follow the court order.
The order said protest inside the stadium and not outside the stadium. We are not stopping anybody from protesting but look at how they are blocking the express road and I said No. Because where their right stops is where another man own starts. They are infringing into the right of way of people and its not good. They are equally trespassing on people’s right of legal movement. They should carry all their 1000 pressmen and enter the stadium to protest. I don’t care about whatever they do but do your protest inside the stadium.”….Sêe_Morē
