Renowned political economist and former presidential candidate, Professor Pat Utomi, has reacted to the opposition coalition’s decision to adopt the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a new political platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a major move to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the coalition named former Senate President, David Mark, as the interim national chairman of the ADC. Mark recently resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Also appointed was former Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola, who will serve as the interim national secretary.
The development was announced through social media posts by key opposition figures, including former Kaduna State governor Nasir el-Rufai, Dele Momodu, and Kola Ologbondiyan. The coalition aims to present a united front to take over power from the APC in 2027.
Reacting to the news, Pat Utomi commended the coalition’s decision and urged for a deeper purpose behind the movement. According to him, “Warm shout out to ADC for becoming the platform to construct a new political party that can show the way away from this present darkness. The key must not be just to replace incumbents. It must be about sacrificial service to redeem Nigeria and restore hope to our children.”
Utomi’s statement has drawn attention to the importance of value-based politics, especially at a time when many Nigerians are disillusioned with the current political climate. His emphasis on selfless leadership and a focus on the younger generation echoes growing public sentiments for genuine change.
