A Chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, Cletus Obun has alleged that out of the 7 service chiefs that President Bola Tinubu appointed, five were Christians. He argued that this decision countered expectations that the administration would favor a Muslim-majority leadership, reflecting a commitment to inclusivity in a politically diverse nation.
He emphasized that Nigeria’s political landscape is built on the foundations of ethnicity, religion, equity, and gender sensitivity, as well as youth inclusivity. However, he pointed out a significant gap in the reward system for individuals who have demonstrated capability and commitment to the victory of the President in the 2023 election.
He said in an interview with Arise TV From 10:09, “The president has a duty to ensure that the principle of federal character is upheld. And he did that very well when he appointed the service chiefs. Out of the 7 service chiefs that the president appointed, five of them were Christians. And this was against the thinking that this government was going to be a Muslim-Muslim thing.
So our polity is placed upon the tripod of ethnicity, religion, and equity. And also on the basis of religion, ethnicity, and gender sensitivity and youth inclusivity. But as we speak today, there’s a shortage and a huge gap about the reward system for those who actually did the job, who are doing the job, and who have capacity to do the job.”
