The Oko Jumbo-led 3-member faction of Rivers House of Assembly has stated that there is no court order stopping INEC from conducting by-elections for 27 vacant seats in the state’s House of Assembly now.

In a live coverage by Symfoni TV from 2:43, Oko Jumbo explained that the only thing stopping INEC from organizing these elections was a court order preventing them from doing so. But recently, the case tied to this order was dismissed by the Federal High Court. He said with this ruling, the court order blocking INEC from conducting the elections has also expired

In Jumbo’s words: “The only impediment to INEC conducting a by-election to fill the 27 vacant seats in the Rivers State House of Assembly was the order of interlocutory injunction restraining INEC from conducting a by-election. Now that suit number FHC/Abj/CS/I681/2023 has been struck out, the order of interlocutory injunction is also spent. Accordingly, as the Rt Hon Speaker of Rivers House of Assembly, I call on INEC to conduct a by-election to fill the 27 vacant seats in the Rivers State House of Assembly”
