According to Nigerian Tribune, former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has praised President Bola Tinubu for halting his planned foreign trips in order to directly focus on Nigeria’s worsening security situation.

Sani, who is also a prominent civil rights advocate, said the President’s choice to remain in the country was both timely and necessary, especially considering the tense national atmosphere.

Reacting on his X handle on Wednesday, Sani explained that the decision was important not only for addressing the pressing security concerns but also for preventing what could have been a major public outrage.

He stressed that Nigerians are increasingly vocal online about leadership actions, noting that if the President had proceeded with the foreign visits while insecurity continued to escalate, the reaction across social media platforms would have been intense.

According to him, the backlash would have been so severe that “only God would have saved him from the ‘Gun ablazing’ social media.”

Sani emphasised that Tinubu’s move to suspend the trips and concentrate on tackling domestic issues showed an awareness of the nation’s expectations during this challenging period.

He said the President’s decision demonstrated responsiveness and a willingness to confront Nigeria’s problems head-on, rather than appearing detached from the struggles faced by citizens.

In his post, the former lawmaker reiterated that staying back was the most responsible option available to the President at this time.

He noted that Nigerians are closely watching how leaders handle matters of national security and that any action perceived as neglectful could fuel widespread criticism.
