Former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore has taken to his official X account to react after Nigeria’s Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Ahmad said Saudi Arabia and some other Muslim countries don’t shut down schools during Ramadan.
The Minister of Education made the comment after some Northern governors shut down schools during Ramadan.
According to the Minister of Education;
“There is no religious basis for shutting down schools during Ramadan. Even in countries like Saudi Arabia, which are recognised as Muslim nations, educational institutions continue to function normally during this period”.
Reacting, Omoyele Sowore backed the claim of Suwaiba Ahmad. He said the children of the people who shut down schools don’t even attend public schools.
According to Omoyele Sowore on his official X account;
“Their children or wards go to schools abroad or expensive private schools in Abuja where school fees are paid from funds meant for the education of the poor; these schools are never closed for Ramadan Fasting”.
