Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has once again stirred the political landscape with another bold statement directed at his critics. In a video shared on TVC News from 7:56, the governor appeared unfazed by recent backlash over his public remarks, doubling down on his earlier comments while taunting those he believes are pained by his rise and style of leadership.
“I don’t know what’s paining them; is it because I said they don’t have substance?” Okpebholo asked during a charged address to a crowd of supporters and dignitaries, including FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, former Governor Adams Oshiomhole, and members of the Edo State House of Assembly.
The governor’s comments were a continuation of his recent verbal confrontations with political opponents, particularly those criticizing his earlier advisory to Labour Party’s Peter Obi to notify the state before visiting. That statement had drawn national attention and accusations of political intimidation.
But Okpebholo, speaking confidently before an enthusiastic audience, insisted he had done nothing wrong. “Was I chewing yam? I just gave advice, and they started crying. Now they’re acting like I committed a crime for stating the obvious—that they lack direction and, yes, substance.”
He reiterated his gratitude to the people of Edo for electing him, describing their vote as a rejection of what he called “empty noise and recycled propaganda.” According to him, Edo is now on a path of transformation, backed by President Bola Tinubu’s “New Hope” agenda.
“We are no longer in the wilderness,” Okpebholo declared. “The people have chosen to follow the path of progress. They’ve opened their eyes. And no amount of shouting on social media will change that.”
The governor also praised the appointment of an Edo son as the Minister of the FCT, calling it a clear sign of the president’s trust in the state’s potential. “President Tinubu has shown love to Edo. He’s funding us, guiding us, and standing by us.”
With his growing reputation for blunt, unscripted remarks, Governor Okpebholo has carved out a bold political identity—one that continues to spark debate, draw fire from opponents, and solidify his grassroots appeal among loyalists. As he put it, “We’re working, and that’s what pains them the most.”
