The new Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory Police Command (FCT), Mr Tunji Disu, on Saturday night wrote on his visit to 94-year-old retired police officer who was one of the first females to be enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force in 1955, 69 years ago.

Disu disclosed this on his X handle, saying the old woman, Dame Stella Obuoforibo Okuyiga, who retired as a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in 1986, will clock 95 years in January 2025.

According to the CP, he decided to pay a visit to the old woman in Port Harcourt to inform her of his transfer from the Rivers State Police Command as well as to express his gratitude and bid her farewell following his posting to the FCT Police Command.

Disu disclosed that the retired officer not only blessed him with prayers, she also sent gifts to his mother and wife while also wishing him the best in his new post.

The CP wrote: “I had the privilege of visiting DCP Dame Stella Obuoforibo Okuyiga (retired) to share my gratitude and inform her of my transfer. She blessed me with prayers and sent gifts for my mother and wife. She was among the first set of 20 female police officers in Nigeria, joining the force in 1955, and she retired in 1986. She will turn 95 in January 2025.”

Disu assumed duties as the 32nd FCT Police Commissioner last Monday and he took over from Mr Bernard Igwe who has been promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG).
