A Global Political Analyst, Marwan Bishara has alleged that the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu is facing corruption charges as he prepares for trial in Israel amid the ICC call for his arrest. He argued that European powers, including Germany, could uphold international justice while remaining allies of Israel, in light of the ruling from the International Criminal Court (ICC).

He expressed the view that Israel is now “cornered” and that the Netanyahu government is feeling significant pressure. He pointed out that recent events indicate Netanyahu’s anxiety over the potential for ICC indictment, leading to increased efforts by Israel and its allies to persuade the ICC to halt proceedings. With the ICC’s decision now made, Bishara described it as monumental and emphasized that Israel will need to confront the consequences of this ruling moving forward.

He said in an interview with Al Jazeera from 5:10, ‘Netanyahu is facing corruption charges in Israel and he’s going to face trial soon. So, it’s okay for leaders to be facing trial while you stand by their country. Israelis will consider their country wonderful and democratic, but its leaders will go on trial. So, Germany and other European powers could stand for International Justice and could remain allies of Israel while at the same time accepting the ICC ruling. So, I think Israel now is cornered and I think the Netanyahu government probably will feel the heat.

It is already feeling the heat, because anyone who followed what has gone on in Israel in the past few weeks and months knows that Netanyahu has been frantic about the possibility of him being potentially indicted by the ICC. And that’s why there was a lot of pressure by Israel and its allies against the ICC for it not to carry on with this. But now we have a decision, and it’s a monumental decision. It’s hugely important, and clearly, Israel is going to have to reckon with this.”
