The Senator representing Delta North, Prince Ned Nwoko, yesterday criticized what he described as emotional manipulation and the misrepresentation of facts surrounding the six-month suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

According to The Nation, it was reported that in a statement, Nwoko expressed concern that the issue had been distorted into a false narrative of victimization and suppression, as revealed that he personally contacted Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over the matter, but she didn’t agree with the suggestion he presented to her.

He said, “I personally reached out to her during this process. I sent her messages because, as a lawyer, I know that before any judgment is passed, a person must be given an opportunity to state their case.

Further talking, he said, “I asked her:“Are you prepared to apologize, so that I can speak on your behalf ? Ask that you be given the opportunity to apologize. She responded that she did no wrong.”

After he got the response from her, he recalled telling Senator Natasha that she was wrong, explaining that he had watched the video and saw what actually happened. He emphasized that the report before the Senate had nothing to do with any sexual harassment allegations but was solely about her disorderly conduct.

He criticized those trying to portray the situation as an attack on women in politics, calling it a distortion of the truth. He pointed out that Nigeria has many strong female leaders who have earned respect through discipline, strategic engagement, and adherence to institutional processes. He insisted that the Senate had never been against women.

However, Nwoko alleged that no lawmaker, regardless of gender, was above the rules of the chamber. He explained that the issue was not about being male or female but about the expectation that all Senators must behave with decorum and respect for the institution they serve. According to him, the same rules applied to everyone, and when a Senator repeatedly disregarded them, consequences were necessary.
